FRANK MCGARTH snr
Frank McGarth started his career in horse racing as a jockey with considerable success.
While riding in the 1885 Caulfield Cup he almost lost his life in Australia's worst horse
racing accident. In the early 1900s Frank McGarth decided to try race horse training and
soon earned the reputation of being an excellent trainer.
During the 1920s and 1930s Frank McGarth trained a number of champion gallopers winning
many feature races including the Melbourne Cup. He retired in 1947 after a 65 year career
in horse racing handing his stable over to his son.
