TOM HALES
1847 – 1901


Tom Hales was born in Portland, NSW. At the age of 12 he ran away from home to become a jockey.
Tom Hales had a remarkable career winning all of Australia’s major races including the 1880 Melbourne Cup. In three days during the 1888 Melbourne Cup Carnival he rode 14 races with 11 winners.
Tom Hales retired in 1894
