ROY HIGGINS

Roy Higgins was born in 1938 in Koondrook, Victoria. He started his career as a jockey in 1953 in Deniliquin. After becoming successful in country races, he moved to Melbourne and became Victoria’s greatest jockey winning 11 Melbourne Jockey Premierships equaling the long-standing record of Bill Duncan.
Throughout his career Roy Higgins battled with his weight but still managed to win more than 2,300 races including 2 Melbourne Cups.
In October 1983 Roy Higgins retired after his last ride at Flemington.
