GEORGE MOORE

George Moore was born in Mackay, Queensland in 1923. When he started working for trainer T.J. Smith they formed one of the most successful trainer-jockey teams in the Australian racing history. George Moore won 119 Group 1 races which stands as an Australian record and 10 Sydney Jockey Premierships. He was also very successful overseas.
In 1971 George Moore rode and won his last race the VRC Derby on Classic Mission. Before retiring to the Gold Coast he worked as a leading trainer in Hong Kong for many year.
George Moore was immortalized by the George Moore Medal which is presented to Sydney’s outstanding jockey annually.
