DAVID MUNRO
1913 - 1966

David, Hugh, " Darby" Munro was born in Melbourne, Victoria into a racing family. He followed into the footsteps of his older brother Jim who was a successful jockey during the 1920’s.
At 17 years of age David Munro won the 1930 Doncaster Handicap. Over the years he won many feature races including 3 Melbourne Cups.
David Munro retired in 1955. He was immortalized in 1981 by featuring on an Australian stamp and by the Sydney Turf Club which runs the Darby Munro Stakes annually in his memory.
